Mudīte I. Zīlīte Saltups Postgraduate and Post-Doctoral Fellowships

AABS invites applications for Short-Term Study or Research Grants for up to eight weeks of study in the United States with a maximum stipend of $10,000.

The grants are funded from a bequest in memory of Dr. Mudīte I. Zīlīte Saltups. Dr. Saltups’ will provides that recipients of a fellowship must be citizens of the Republic of Latvia, speak Latvian, have their permanent residence in Latvia, and come to the United States to study or conduct research.

Application deadline

The application deadline for the 2020–2021 academic year has passed. The application procedure for the 2021–2022 academic year will be announced in late 2020.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

Proposals in the Humanities and Social Sciences will be considered and evaluated according to the scholarly potential of the applicant and the quality and scholarly importance of the proposed work. Applicants are expected to either be in the final stages of their doctoral program, or to have gained their doctoral degree after 1 January 2009. While proposals do not have to relate to some aspect of Baltic Studies, preference will be given to Baltic Studies topics.

Guidelines for Application:

1. Complete the online application form.

2. The application must include a proposal packet (single PDF file), which must consist of the following:

a) Statement of proposal in English (no more than two pages);

b) Curriculum Vitae;

c) One-page budget detailing the travel, living and other expenses being claimed;

d) Letter of recommendation (by current doctoral or professional supervisor);

e) Identification of the university, library, or archive for the intended study or research; attach relevant documentation from the institution on the course of study or the availability of materials the applicant is planning to utilize.

3. Once the application has been awarded, applicant must submit the following additional documentation:

a) Proof of Latvian citizenship – scanned copies of relevant pages of the passport of the Republic of Latvia indicating citizenship.
