Two grant opporunities are open to applicants of all nationalities.
Emerging Scholars Grants, open to recent PhD graduates, are research project-based and award up to $6,000.
Dissertation Grants, open to graduate students at the dissertation phase of their program, award up to $4,000 to support both the research and writing process.
Three fellowships are restricted, per terms of their bequests, to Latvian citizens.
The Birnitis and Grundmanis Fellowships both award year-long stipends (up to $22,000 and $20,000, respectively); the Birnitis Fellowship is open to PhD candidates close to finishing their dissertation, whereas the Grundmanis Fellowship can be applied broadly to graduate or post-graduate study.
Complementing those two fellowships, the Saltups Fellowship is a short-term grant for up to eight weeks of study in the United States, with a maximum stipend of $10,000.
