The Association for the Advancment of Baltic Studies (AABS) is pleased to announce a new grant starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. The AABS Grant for Academic Events and Projects of up to $5,000 is available for any academic event or scholarly project that promotes Baltic Studies.
“The Baltic Studies community is thriving, and proof of that is the increasing number of events and projects in the field,” said Jörg Hackmann, AABS President. “The new grant seeks to support existing efforts and encourage a new, diverse range of proposals.”
Two categories of events and projects in Baltic Studies will receive preference in consideration for the grant.
First, events such as conferences, seminars, and workshops that place special emphasis on including graduate students and early career scholars.
Second, projects that focus on building, maintaining, and showcasing Baltic collections outside of the Baltic states. Such collections may be libraries, archives, art or archaeological collections that support the study of the history and culture of the Baltic peoples.
The AABS Grant for Academic Events and Projects complements the existing Baumanis Grant for Creative Projects in Baltic Studies, which remains active and will be accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year. The new Events and Projects Grant is intended to provide space for a broader range of opportunities than specified by the terms of the Baumanis Grant.
“I’m eager to read the proposals for this new grant,” said AABS Vice President for Professional Development Kaarel Piirimäe. “My hope is that members of our community will be inspired to pursue the events and projects they’ve been thinking about.”
The application deadline for academic year 2025-2026 is April 1, 2025.
Applications will be evaluated by the AABS 2024–2026 Grants Committee consisting of Hackmann, Piirimäe, and AABS Director-at-Large Dr. Dovilė Budrytė.
