3rd Baltic Studies Teaching and Learning Workshop

Wingate University, Wingate, NC
March 13-14, 2025

Working on a new project? Thinking about a new course you would like to teach? Looking for some feedback on the first chapter of a book?

The 3rd Baltic Studies Teaching and Learning Workshop will be hosted at Wingate University, Wingate, NC (USA), March 13-14, 2025. The organizers invite proposals in the humanities and social sciences from scholars and students interested in the Baltic region, broadly defined. They also encourage work from scholars investigating the intersection of Baltic Studies and Central-Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, and Central Asia.

The workshop is an intensive setting with each presenter receiving extensive feedback on their work. The organizers seek to connect early scholars and students with seasoned scholars in the discipline, providing a space for mentorship and critical feedback. Graduate students are especially encouraged to apply, and small travel grants exist to support their work. The organizers also strongly encourage work related to pedagogy and teaching: how do we teach Baltic Studies to the next generation of scholars? The deadline to submit is Dec. 15, 2024.

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Adam Lenton, Assistant Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University. His research focuses on the links between nationalism, political development, and security, with a regional focus on Russia and the former Soviet Union. Dr. Lenton’s areas of expertise are nationalism and ethnic politics, Russian domestic and foreign politics, political development, integration and international security in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. His keynote address at this year’s workshop is titled, “Memory and Empire: How Imperial Legacies Shape Ethnic Mobilization, Past and Present.”
