Journal of Baltic Studies Publication Development Grant

AABS and Taylor & Francis invite applications for the Journal of Baltic Studies Publication Development Grant. The grant intends to support completion of a specific academic publication, such as a journal article, book chapter in an edited volume, or book manuscript.

A grant of up to $7,000 will support costs related to (field) research and writing up a publication in any field of Baltic studies, intended to be published in a Taylor & Francis journal/ Routledge book series. Funds may be used for travel and accommodation, equipment, duplication, image permissions, research assistants for remote archival work, or other needs as specified.

The application deadline for academic year 2026-2027 is March 1, 2026. Applications will be evaluated by a committee consisting of AABS Vice-President for Publications Dr. Diana Mincyte, AABS President Dr. Jörg Hackmann, and AABS Director-at-Large Dr. Dovilė Budrytė. Award notifications will be made in May 2026.

AWARD: Up to $7,000

2026-2027 application process

The application deadline for academic year 2026-2027 was March 1, 2026.

Award notifications will be made in May 2026.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

Applicants must be current AABS members at the time of application.

Proposals will be evaluated according to the scholarly potential of the applicant, and the quality and scholarly importance of the proposed work, especially to the development of Baltic Studies.

The grant is aimed at supporting postdocs and early career scholars on short-term contracts. Those with permanent full-time academic contracts or 6 years after award of their PhD are ineligible.

The grant is not restricted by one’s citizenship.

The grant holder agrees to submit the proposed publication for peer review to a T&F journal/Routledge book series.

Guidelines for Application:

1. Check that your AABS membership is active and complete the online grant application form.

2. The application must include a proposal packet (single PDF file, in English), which must consist of the following:

a) One-page proposal;

b) One-page budget specifying expected expenses;

c) One-page Curriculum Vitae.

Supplementary materials may be requested, if the grant committee wishes clarification of certain points or examples of previous work by the applicant. Applicants (whether successful or not) may apply to this program again.

The 2026–2027 grants will be paid out in two parts. In July 2026, after the grantee signs an agreement with AABS, the first instalment of 4,000 USD will be paid out. Once the manuscript has been completed and submitted for peer review a T&F journal/Routledge book series, the remainder of the grant (3,000 USD) will be paid out.

Once the manuscript has been accepted for publication, the grantee must submit a 2-3-page report to AABS, detailing the outcome of the project and how the funds were spent.
